Instructing Politicians Not to Protest Amid Covid Pandemic, Uddhav Thackeray Asks Prime Minister Modi | India News


MUMBAI: Expressing concern about large gatherings amid the second wave of Covid-19, Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to instruct politicians to refrain from organizing protests.
Thackeray brought up the issue of political protests at a Prime Minister’s meeting with top ministers from various states on the coronavirus situation.
During the meeting, Thackeray said that few politicians are gambling with people’s lives and organizing protests amid the second wave of Covid-19 and called on Prime Minister Modi to intervene in this matter and instruct those political parties to follow the Covid-19 protocols.
He also informed the prime minister that the state has formed a working group to ensure the timely distribution of the coronavirus vaccine and the execution of the vaccination program.
In addition to Thackeray, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal are among those present at the meeting. held via videoconference.
Maharashtra continues to top the list of states most affected by Covid with 82,915 active cases and 3,172 deaths, according to the Union Ministry of Health. 1,79,237 people have recovered from the disease in the state.
