Covid-19 Vaccine Will Be Available In Near Future – ICMR Scientist Tells Allahabad High Court
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases Division scientist Dr Nivedita Gupta briefed Allahabad High Court on the status of the Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday.
Dr. Gupta informed the court that she was confident that vaccines for the viral infection would be available in the near future.
The court, while addressing the issue of ensuring that everyone wore face masks, ordered the state government to maintain strict surveillance in the markets of Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Kanpur and Gautam Budh Nagar for at least the next 30 days. These cities have witnessed a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases.
The court said the district administration would use drones, if available, to monitor crowded places such as markets.
“This surveillance must be carried out following the same pattern that is being done in Allahabad,” observed the bank.
The court, made up of Judge Siddhartha Varma and Judge Ajit Kumar, approved the order after learning suo moto of the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
Sarvshresth Tripathi, SSP Prayagraj, who was present at the court together with his team, informed the court that a group of four officers has been posted in different areas of the district to ensure that people wear face masks. Additionally, local officials have been ordered to provide four-hour reports to Station House Officers (SHO) regarding the inspection they would make regarding the wearing of masks.
Earlier on Monday, the court had ordered the Prayagraj Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to report personally on November 24 on progress in deploying the police to ensure the percent use of face masks in the city.
The court has set December 3 as the next hearing date in the case.
