Center Reviews Preparedness As Cyclone Nivar Approaches TN-Puducherry Coast | India News


NEW DELHI: Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba chaired a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) on Monday to review states’ preparedness for the impending cyclone ‘Nivar’ that will cross the shores of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between Karaikal and Mamallapuram as a ‘severe cyclonic storm’ on November 25 at night.
The cyclone will affect the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from November 24 to 26. It was learned that Gauba called on the state / UT authorities to aim for “zero loss of life and an early restoration of normalcy” in the affected areas.
Attending the meeting via video conference, the chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry told the NCMC that the state / UT authorities are fully prepared to deal with any eventuality. They also discussed coordinating with the NDRF and other agencies to meet the challenge.
The head of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Mrutyunjay Mohapatra gave a presentation on the cyclone situation and mentioned that the state is constantly being monitored and shared with the state / UT governments involved.
