The condition of former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi is extremely critical
The health condition of the veteran leader of Congress and former prime minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, deteriorated on Monday and the doctors who treated him described him as extremely critical.
The 84-year-old man has been admitted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) since November 2 after he complained of shortness of breath. He had previously tested positive for Covid-19 on August 25 and was discharged from the hospital on October 25.
Gogoi has suffered multiple organ failure and has been on respiratory support for the past few days. On Sunday, doctors had given him dialysis because he was unable to urinate naturally due to a kidney problem.
“The health of former Prime Minister Tarun Gogoi has deteriorated. He is very critical at the moment and is on full life support. We need God’s blessing for him now, ”Assam’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who arrived at GMCH on Monday morning, told reporters.
Many of Gogoi’s fans and a host of journalists have gathered outside GMCH waiting for the latest news on his health. Prayer meetings are also being held throughout the state for his speedy recovery.
The former wife of the CM, Dolly, their daughter Chandrima and their son Gaurav, who is a MP from the Kaliabor Congress in Assam, are present at the hospital.
