NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister of Assam and top leader of Congress, Tarun Gogoi, passed away on Monday.
The leader of the Octogenerian Congress was being treated at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital for complications after the Covid.
Expressing anguish over Gogoi’s disappearance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described him as a popular leader and veteran administrator.
“Shri Tarun Gogoi Ji was a popular leader and veteran administrator, who had years of political experience in Assam and the Center. Distressed by his passing. My thoughts are with his family and followers in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti”, he said on Twitter.

Earlier today, the hospital said her condition was very critical.
Gogoi was put on ventilation after suffering multiple organ failure.
The 84-year-old three-time prime minister was admitted to GMCH on November 2. He was placed under invasive ventilation on Saturday night when his condition worsened.
He had tested positive for Covid-19 on August 25 and admitted to the GMCH the next day.
