NEW DELHI: TMC MP Sougata Roy on Saturday flatly denied reports of him joining the BJP and criticized Barrackpore BJP MP Arjun Singh as a “third class” and “bahubali” politician.
Arjun Singh had made a statement that Sougata Roy along with five other Trinamool MPs will join the BJP.
“I strongly support my party and I will never join the BJP,” Sougata Roy told the ANI news agency.
“This is just one part of BJP’s campaign. It is the technique of BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya to spread a lot of fake news,” he added.
Several Trinamool leaders have left the party to join the BJP in Bengal, where the assembly elections are due to take place next year.
Sougata Roy’s clarification comes amid rumors and suspense over the decision of another senior TMC leader and minister of state, Suvendu Adhikari, to leave the party.
In several cases, such as Nandigram and Midnapore, Adhikari was seen holding public meetings without the party symbol, flag or banner.
