LUCK: Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Saturday that his government has been able to control both the slaughter of cows and their smuggling to other states.
“The cows were even sent to other countries before I took over as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. It was a challenge for me to protect the sacred animal, which I did to the best of my ability,” Adityanath said.
He said measures taken to protect stray cattle have also borne fruit and around 5.24 lakh of cows are kept in government-run shelters, while more than eight lakh of them have been housed in ‘Kanha Upvan’, the shelters of cows are run by local agencies. in the state.
Speaking at a book launch function at his official residence on Saturday, the day before ‘Gopashtami’, a festival dedicated to cows and the Lord Krishna, the prime minister stressed the religious importance of cows.
He said that ‘Gopashtami’ has been a tradition followed for thousands of years.
Adityanath published the book ‘Gau-Lok Ki Ore’ written by Shivani Sharma, the UP government said in a statement issued here on Saturday.
