#MeToo: Court asks if there is a possibility of agreement between Akbar and Ramani in a defamation complaint | India News

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday asked former Union Minister MJ Akbar and journalist Priya Ramani if there was a possibility of reaching an agreement between them on a criminal defamation complaint filed by him against her.
Akbar had filed the complaint against Ramani for allegedly defaming him by accusing him of sexual misconduct some 20 years ago when he was a journalist.
Ramani had said that the accusations against Akbar, made in the wake of the #MeToo movement in 2018, were his truth and were made for the public good.
Additional Metropolitan Chief Magistrate (ACMM) Ravindra Kumar Pandey raised the query on Saturday as he began to hear final arguments in the case again since the previous judge who heard the matter was transferred to another court on Wednesday.
The court has asked both parties to respond on the point of the agreement and return on November 24, the next hearing date.
