A 38-year-old dental surgeon was stabbed to death in her Agra home and her two children were injured by a burglar who entered the home under the pretense of reloading the family’s decoder on Friday afternoon, police officials said Saturday. , adding that the suspect has been arrested.
According to the police, the defendant, identified as Shubham Pathak, entered the home of the deceased, Dr. Nisha Singhal, with the intention of robbing the family.
“Dr. Nisha Singhal was at home with her two children when the defendants arrived at the home. He was a familiar face to the doctor’s family as he used to come to recharge the television, ”Inspector General (Agra Range) told Satish Ganesh.
The defendant allegedly stabbed the dentist with a knife multiple times while her children were in another room, Ganesh said. Her husband, Dr. Ajay Singhal, was not at the home at the time of the incident, she added.
The defendant was arrested on Saturday after a brief shooting. “Police teams were formed and the defendant was seen riding a motorcycle in the trans-Yamuna area the next day (Saturday). Police vigil was reinforced and a barrier was placed 30 meters from the road where the accused arrived, but saw the police and tried to escape. He then shot the police and was injured in a counterattack and was arrested, ”Ganesh said, adding that Pathak has been hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his legs.
“During the interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. He also attacked the doctor’s son and daughter, ”said the IG. The children, four and eight, they are being treated in a hospital, he said.
The police have recovered the jewelry and cash that Pathak stole from Singhal’s home. “The police recovered 24,000 rupees in cash, jewelry, Singhal’s Aadhaar card and Pathak’s driving license from her purse,” the IG said.
