13 tribal children trafficked to Gujarat rescued in Udaipur
Udaipur: A 15-year-old girl was among 13 tribal children rescued from Udaipur in Rajasthan as they were allegedly trafficked to Gujarat on Friday on two buses to work as bonded laborers, authorities said Saturday.
“We have been receiving information about the trafficking of children to Gujarat from the Gogunda and Saria blocks of Udaipur in private buses. On Friday night, we received a notice that 10 private buses were carrying 10-15 children. We immediately took steps to rescue them, ”said District Legal Services Authority secretary Ridhima Sharma.
He said checkpoints were set up at various points with the help of the police to intercept some buses. “A team was sent to the Balicha circle of the city for verification. From there, 10 boys and a girl were rescued from a private bus and two more children were found on another bus, ”Sharma said.
Sharma said that more than 100 children have been rescued in the last year in Udaipur. “In some parts of Rajasthan, parents force their children to work as laborers mainly due to poverty and unemployment. Children are forced to work in the fields, especially BT cotton, in parts of Gujarat. “
The children have been turned over to the Child Welfare Committee.
