Change of Varavara Rao to Nanavati Hospital from Taloja Prison: Bombay HC runs the state
On Wednesday, the Mumbai High Court asked the Maharashtra government to transfer Varavaro Rao to Nanavati Rao State Hospital for 15 days and ordered him to bear the cost of treating the 81-year-old Telugu poet, the ANI news agency reported. . Rao has been incarcerated in Taloja Prison in connection with the Elgar Parishad case.
The higher court also said that Rao’s family can visit him according to hospital rules, according to ANI.
Lead attorney Indira Jaising argued on her behalf in Bombay High Court at a physical hearing. “He (Varavara Rao) is completely bedridden, in diapers, without a medical assistant and has a catheter. The catheter was not changed for three months as there was no one to change it, ”he said, according to Live Law.
“There is a reasonable fear that he (Varavara Rao) will die in custody,” Indira Jaising said today. “I am alleging negligence on the part of the state. If the State cannot take care of him, he must be transferred to the Nanavati Hospital ”, he added.
Deepak Thakare, who appeared on behalf of the state, had requested that Varavara Rao be transferred to JJ Hospital and that all required tests be performed there. However, Jaising vehemently opposed this suggestion and informed the court that when Rao entered JJ Hospital in July, he sustained head injuries and was found lying in a pool of urine, without a nurse or assistant nearby.
