BJP Calls on Congressional Leaders to Respond to Charges in AgustaWestland Bribery Investigation | India News


NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, the BJP criticized Congress for its “silence” on allegations of involvement by its top leaders in the AgustaWestland bribery investigation and attacked Rahul Gandhi, saying he tweets on all sorts of issues but has not responded to these serious charges.
At a press conference, BJP spokesperson Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore demanded that Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son respond to the allegations made against their party leaders.
“What do they have to say about the names of their party leaders who are mentioned in the scam? What is the meaning of their silence?” I ask.
The BJP has targeted Congress citing an informed statement by Rajiv Saxena, a key defendant in the case, to the Directorate of Enforcement in which, it is claimed, he had mentioned the names of the nephew and son of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal. Nath, Ratul Puri. Bakul Nath, along with Congressional leaders Salman Khurshid and Ahmed Patel.
Khurshid had said that he cannot respond to the BJP’s claim until he knows the context in which the defendant has mentioned his name.
In attacking Rahul Gandhi, Rathore said he had often attacked the Modi government over the Rafale fighter jet deal despite the Supreme Court giving him a clean fine, but has not said a word about the investigation into the alleged corruption in the purchase of the fighter plane. Choppers VVIP.
The CBI had started investigating the AgustaWestland deal when the UPA government was in power after an investigation in Italy suggested bribery in the transaction.
Rathore said then-Defense Minister AK Antony had acknowledged in Parliament that there had been corruption in the deal.
“The scam was the priority” in defense deals when Congress was in power, he alleged.
“The people of the country will never forgive Congress for its corruption in defense agreements,” he said.
Speaking to journalists, Rathore also attacked the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal for alleged violence against BJP workers in the state.
