CBI reserves 16 for “defaming” judges of SC, AP HC | India News


NEW DELHI / AMRAVATI: The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) has booked 16 people for posting allegedly defamatory material against Supreme Court and Supreme Court judges of Andhra Pradesh on social media, taking over state CID investigations, they said officials on Monday. CBI, by order of the Andhra Pradesh high court, has taken over the investigation in 12 cases registered by the state CID regarding the complaint by B Rajasekhar, the court’s secretary general, officials said.
On October 12, the superior court ordered the central agency to investigate the case and submit a report to it in a sealed cover within eight weeks. The next hearing on the case is December 14. The CBI office in Visakhapatnam registered the case under various sections, including 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
