The sacred portals of the Kedarnath Himalayan shrine were closed for the winter season on Monday amid new snowfall.

The gates of the temple, which houses one of Lord Shiva’s 11 jyotirlingas and attracts devotees from around the world, closed at 8:30 a.m. after an elaborate ceremony.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath, and Devasthanam Board officials, among others, attended the ceremony.

The two senior ministers arrived at the shrine on Sunday to offer prayers and take a look at the ongoing rebuilding projects in Kedarpuri.

Snowfall accompanied by a drizzle started in Kedarnath on Sunday evening and continued into the morning.
