With 2.9L Fresh Covid Boxes, India Records Lowest Weekly Count Since July India News

NEW DELHI: India recorded just over 30,000 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the lowest single-day addition in 155 days, mostly due to a combination of low testing and Diwali holidays. The death toll from the virus in one day was 426, the lowest in 163 days.
Covid-19 cases and deaths recorded during the week also fell sharply after registering an increase last week. The week (Nov 8-15) saw an addition of 2.92,549 cases across India, a sharp drop from 3,25,555 recent infections recorded last week (Nov 1-8). This was the lowest weekly case addition since July.

Also, 3,476 deaths were recorded in the week, a drop of 535 from the 4,011 deaths reported in the previous week. The toll for the week was also the lowest since at least late July or early August.
While several northern Indian states, led by Delhi, saw an increase in cases this week, Maharashtra and the south reported a sharp decline, except for Kerala. However, the next few weeks look crucial, as only then will the impact of the holiday season be known.
Meanwhile, the country reported 30,126 new infections on Sunday, the day after Diwali, which was the lowest daily number since July 13, according to TOI’s database compiled from numbers released by state governments. The death toll, 426, was the lowest since July 5. In Mumbai, active cases fell below 10,000 for the first time since May. As of Sunday, Mumbai had 9,956 active cases, a 52% decrease from the 20,922 cases seen on October 15. The city represents 12% of active cases in the state (84,918).
