India Reports Less Than 50,000 New Daily Cases of Covid-19 in 8 Days; more active case contracts | India News


NEW DELHI: India has reported fewer than 50,000 new daily cases of Covid-19 during the eighth continuous day, a trend that takes on greater significance as many countries in Europe and the Americas continue to experience an increase in their daily numbers, said the Union Ministry of Health. on Sunday.
A total of 41,100 people were found to be infected with Covid-19 in India within 24 hours, while 42,156 people recovered during the same period, leading to a further contraction in the number of active cases.
There are 4.79,216 active cases of coronavirus to date, which represent only 5.44 percent of the total cases.
The last time daily new cases crossed the 50K threshold was on November 7.
“Aside from the successful dissemination of appropriate Covid-19 behavior among various population groups, this trend takes on broader importance as many countries in Europe and America continue to experience an increase in their daily numbers,” the ministry said in a statement.
Fifteen states and UT have Covid-19 cases per million lower than in India (6,387).
New recoveries outnumbering new cases every 24 hour cycle have also improved the recovery rate to 93.09%. The total number of recovered cases amounts to 82.05,728 which exceed the active cases by 77,26,512.
The ministry said that 79.91 percent of the new recovered cases are contributed by ten states and UT.
With 7,117 people recovering from Covid-19, Delhi saw the most recoveries. Kerala recorded 6,793 daily recoveries, while West Bengal recorded 4,479 new recoveries.
Ten states and UT have contributed 82.87 percent of new coronavirus infection cases.
Delhi reported 7,340 cases in the past 24 hours. Kerala recorded 6,357 new cases, while Maharashtra reported 4,237 new infections in a 24-hour span, the ministry said.
Of the 447 deaths that have been reported in one day, 85.01 percent are from 10 states and UT, with 23.5 percent of the new deaths reported in Maharashtra, which reported 105 deaths. Delhi and West Bengal follow with 96 and 53 new deaths, respectively.
Twenty-one states and UT have deaths per million below the national average of 94, the ministry said.
India’s number of Covid-19 cases rose to 88,14,579 with 41,100 infections reported in one day, while the death toll rose to 1,29,635 with 447 new deaths, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
