NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to tribal leader Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary on Sunday, saying that his contribution to the movement for freedom and social harmony will always inspire compatriots.
“I pay tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on the anniversary of his birth. He was a true savior of the poor and worked for the well-being of the underprivileged and exploited sections of society. His contribution to the freedom movement and efforts for social harmony they will always inspire us, “PM Modi (roughly translated from Hindi) tweeted.

Birsa Munda, who belonged to the Munda tribe, was born on November 15, 1875. During British rule in the late 19th century, she led a millennial Indian tribal religious movement through the tribal belt of present-day Bihar and Jharkhand.
His birth anniversary is celebrated as Birsa Munda Jayanti in the country and coincides with Jharkhand Foundation Day.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi wished the people of Jharkhand on the day of the founding of the state on Sunday. In a tweet in Hindi, the prime minister congratulated the people of Jharkhand and wished them prosperity and good health.
Jharkhand was carved in Bihar in 2000.
