After PM Modi’s Arjun Tank Trip, DRDO Expects to Receive Orders for Advanced Tank | India News

NEW DELHI – Optimistic after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Arjun tank trip in Jaisalmer, the Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) on Saturday expressed hope that it will soon receive an order for the supply of 118 Arjun Mark 1A tanks, which are much more advanced than the current version.
“We are very proud to see the Prime Minister taking a ride in the Arjun tank in the deserts of Jaisalmer. We now hope that the Army will soon order two more Arjun Mark 1A tank regiments, ”said DRDO scientist V Balaguru.
Balaguru is the Associate Director of DRDO’s Combat Vehicle Research Development Research Establishment laboratory in Chennai.
So far, the army has installed 124 Arjun tanks that are deployed in the Jaisalmer deserts along the border with Pakistan. Balaguru said that the Arjun Mark 1A has 72 additional features than its previous version with the ability to deal with anti-tank mines on its own with its mine plows.
The 12.7-inch air defense cannon can now also be operated from inside the tank by the tank commander using a remote control without being exposed to enemy fire in times of tank battles in the open. The two departing regiments are deployed around Jaisalmer as part of an armored brigade there. DRDO also expects to provide the solution for the Indian Army’s next generation main battle tank requirements as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
