LONGEWALA / RAJASTHAN: Delivering an unequivocal message to India’s neighbors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that the country would give a “prachand jawab” (fierce response) if provoked.
Criticizing China without naming it, Modi said the world is concerned about “expansionist forces” and “expansionism shows a distorted mentality that belongs to the 18th century.”

“The world today knows that we will not compromise our interests at any cost,” Modi said while addressing soldiers at Longewala Post in Rajasthan on Diwali.
At an excavation in Pakistan, he said Indian soldiers had entered the homes of “terror sponsors” and beaten them, referring to surgical strikes against terrorist camps in the LoC.
Praising the courage of the Indian troops, he said: “If someone casts an evil eye on us, our soldiers will give them an appropriate response. This establishes the credibility of the Indian Army in the world. Today, the Army conducts military exercises with other large countries. We have strategic alliances to fight against terrorism. The Indian armed forces have shown that they can attack terrorist havens anywhere and anytime.
Modi recalled the Battle of Longewala, which has become part of military tradition after Indian troops here successfully thwarted the numerically superior Pakistani forces in the 1971 war.
