US President-Elect Biden, His Deputy Harris, Acting President Trump, Greet People on Diwali | India News


WASHINGTON (AP) – President-elect Joe Biden, his deputy Kamala Harris and incumbent President Donald Trump extended their Diwali greetings to those celebrating the festival of lights on Saturday.
“To the millions of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists who celebrate the Festival of Lights, @DrBiden and I send our best wishes for a #HappyDiwali. May your new year be filled with hope, happiness and prosperity. Sal Mubarak,” President-elect Biden tweeted.

President Trump, a Republican, who was defeated by Biden in the November 3 presidential election, shared a photo of him lighting a lamp at the White House. “Happy Diwali” was written on the photo.

Harris, who wrote the story’s script by becoming the first Native American and black vice president in the United States, extended her greetings on the occasion of Diwali.
“Happy Diwali and Sal Mubarak! @DouglasEmhoff and I wish everyone around the world celebrating a safe, healthy and happy New Year,” tweeted Vice President-Elect Harris.

Earlier, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also extended his greetings on Diwali.
“Happy Independence Day to all who celebrate the victory of light over darkness. Have a joyous Festival of Lights!” tweeted Pompeo, who is currently on a seven-country tour of Europe and the Middle East.
