NEW DELHI: The number of FASTag users in the country reached two million rupees, registering a growth of 400% in one year, resulting in an increase in the collection of tolls on national roads, the Authority said on Wednesday National Highway of India (NHAI).
The highways authority said that the current toll collection is almost Rs 92 crore per day, which represents a substantial increase from Rs 70 crore from the previous year. Almost 75% of total toll revenue is collected through FASTag.
NHAI, in the last year, has given FASTag a big push to reduce congestion at toll plazas and reduce pollution due to vehicle queues at these locations. As social distancing has become the new norm, travelers increasingly see FASTag as a toll payment option, since it negates the chances of any human contact between drivers and toll operators.
