Resolve to Be a Lamp of Hope for the Poor and Needy: The President’s Message on Diwali
President Ram Nath Kovind greeted the nation on the eve of Diwali on Friday, calling it a unifying body of Indian society.
“On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to all fellow citizens living in India and abroad,” Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.
President Kovind said the festival, celebrated by people of various religions and sects, strengthens the sense of unity, goodwill and brotherhood among the people of the country.
“The festival inspires us to work in the service of humanity. Let us resolve, on this occasion, to become a lamp of hope and prosperity for the poor, helpless and needy of society, sharing our happiness as a lamp lights many lamps sharing its light ”, he added.
The president said that Diwali is also a festival of cleansing, adding that one should honor mother nature by celebrating a clean, eco-friendly and pollution-free Diwali.
“May this great festival of joy and light bring joy, peace and prosperity to each and every one of the houses of our country,” he added.
