Four members of the security forces were among 10 people who died in multiple ceasefire violations committed by Pakistani troops along the LoC from Gurez to the Uri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
Srinagar-based defense spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said Pakistan used mortars and other weapons and deliberately targeted civilian areas.
The troops retaliated vigorously causing casualties and substantial damage to Pakistan Army infrastructure throughout the LoC, he said.
“Several ammunition depots, FOL depots and multiple terrorist launch pads have been damaged,” the defense spokesman said.
Three members of the army, a BSF deputy inspector and six civilians were killed in the Pakistani action, while four members of the security forces and eight civilians were injured.
“Pakistan initiated an unprovoked violation of the ceasefire throughout the LoC spread across multiple sectors to include Dawar, Keran, Uri and Naugam. Three Indian Army soldiers were killed in action and three soldiers were injured,” said Col Kalia, adding that the nation salutes his supreme sacrifice.
A BSF deputy inspector was killed in the Haji Peer sector, while a jawan was injured, authorities said.
Two civilians were killed in the Kamalkote sector, also in Uri, while a woman died in the Balkote area in the Haji Peer sector, they added.
