NEW DELHI: On the eve of Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asked people to light a ‘diya’ as a “salute to the soldiers”, saying words cannot do justice to the sense of gratitude for their courage copy.

The prime minister also released an audio clip of his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast in which he first called on citizens to light a ‘diya’ for the soldiers on Diwali.

After Modi’s appeal, the BJP urged people to post a photo with ‘diyas’ for the soldiers on social media.
“This Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched this special campaign to allow us to express our gratitude for our bravest of brave soldiers. Request that you post a photo with diyas for our soldiers using # Salute2Soldiers on social media,” the party said .
