A tiger was found dead in the Chilfi Range of the Bhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary in Kabirdham district during a routine foot patrol by the forest department, an official said Thursday.

The forestry official sent the body for an autopsy and further investigations are underway.

“A male tiger was found dead near the Toraiyabehera area in the Chilfi Mountain Range of the Bhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary when forest officials were on routine foot patrol. The area where the tiger was found is about 200 meters from the edge of Kanha National Park, ”said Rakesh Chaturvedi, Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) for the state speaking with HT.

The PCCF further said that it appeared that there was an internal fight for territory between two tigers because one was killed.

“There is evidence that another tiger was also present at the scene,” Chaturvedi said.

Officials said other senior officials were in the jungle and an autopsy of the tiger’s body will be carried out on Friday.

“More details are expected,” Chaturvedi added.
