Highly Preventive Cloth Masks Against Covid-19, According to New CDC Study
A cloth mask is effective in reducing the risk of contracting and spreading the coronavirus (Covid-19) for the user and those around him, according to a new study from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
In the study, Recommended by CDC that people wear masks, specifically those made of multi-layer fabric without valves, to prevent transmission of the Covid-19 virus.
“Multilayer fabric masks block the release of exhaled respiratory particles into the environment, along with the microorganisms that carry these particles,” the study indicated.
According to the recent CDC health release, the materials used in cloth masks can reduce users’ vulnerability to infectious droplets through filtration, including the filtration of fine aerosols smaller than 10 microns.
“Cloth masks not only effectively block most large droplets (ie 20-30 microns and larger), but they can also block the exhalation of fine droplets and particles (also known as aerosols) smaller than 10 microns; They increase in number with the volume of speech and specific types of phonation. Multilayer fabric masks can block up to 50-70% of these fine droplets and particles and limit the forward spread of those that are not captured. A blockage of more than 80% has been achieved in human experiments that have measured blockage of all respiratory droplets, and in some studies cloth masks work in tandem with surgical masks as barriers to source control ”, he pointed.
SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, can be transmitted through direct, indirect, or close contact with an infected person through respiratory transmission by droplets from coughing, sneezing, or talking.
“An investigation of a high exposure event, in which 2 stylists with symptomatic illnesses interacted for an average of 15 minutes with each of the 139 clients over a period of 8 days, found that none of the 67 clients who subsequently accessed an interview and the test developed an infection. Hairstylists and all clients universally wore masks in the salon, as required by local ordinance and company policy at the time, ”the US health agency noted in its study.
The CDC, citing several studies, advocated the universal use of masking policies, saying they can help avoid future lockdowns, especially if combined with other policies such as social distancing, hand hygiene, and proper ventilation.
