350 nominees in fray for J&K phase I board elections | India News

SRINAGAR / JAMMU: More than 350 nominations have been received for 43 seats that will go to the polls in the first phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in J&K, which will take place on Nov. 28, officials said. Thursday. A total of 352 candidates have submitted their nomination papers, they said. Of the 43 seats, 25 are in the Kashmir Valley and 18 in the Jammu region. In the Kashmir division, 183 nominations have been submitted, while in the Jammu division, the number is 169.
For the panchayat by-elections, the official said, 360 candidates have submitted documents for the sarpanch seats, while 1,761 nominations were received for the panch seats.
Most of the nominations were received in the Kupwara district of northern Kashmir, where 196 candidates submitted their papers for the DDC polls and vacant seats in the sarpanch and panch electoral districts.
