MUMBAI: Nagpur resident Sameet Thakkar, who allegedly posted offensive messages on social media against CM Uddhav Thackeray and his minister son Aaditya, was arrested by the BKC cyber police on Tuesday. This is Thakkar’s third arrest in 17 days. Previously, he was arrested by Nagpur Police and VP Road Police in Mumbai for the same crime.
Thakkar has around 63,000 followers on Twitter and has mentioned in his biography that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among his followers.
The last FIR with the BKC cyber police was filed on a complaint from Dharmendra Mishra, a lawyer attached to Shiv Sena.
Eight other netizens have also been named in this FIR, but so far only Thakkar has been arrested. “We detained Thakkar after he was granted bail in the case brought by VP Marg police,” said an officer.
Mishra also filed the complaint against Thakkar at the VP Road Police Station. The first complaint was filed at the Sitabuldi Police Station in Nagpur by party worker Sena Nitin Tiwari.
