Arnab Goswami asks for release on bail prior to arrest in the second case | India News
NM Joshi Marg in Mumbai filed an FIR against Republic TV’s Goswami, his wife, son and two other people last Wednesday for allegedly assaulting and attempting to obstruct police officers when they arrived at his home in Lower Parel to arrest him in a case 2018. His wife also requested a pre-arrest bond. An Alibaug police team had arrested Goswami in a case of alleged complicity in a suicide in May 2018 of Anvay Naik, an interior designer who had worked in his television studio.
The police registered him and his wife under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (assault or criminal force to dissuade a public servant from performing his duties), Section 504 (intentional insult to cause breach of the peace and 506 (criminal intimidation) and under the Public Damages Law, Property Law, Article 353 cannot be subject to bail and is punishable by a maximum penalty of two years in prison.
Although he is on the list for hearing on Wednesday before the court of sessions, it was postponed as the Supreme Court learned of his challenge to HC’s rejection of provisional measures.
