ABOVE: Gonda priest attacked himself to frame rivals, seize land, police say | Lucknow News

LUCK: With the arrest of seven people on Saturday, the Gonda police claimed to have solved the October 10 attack on Samrat Das, the priest of the Ram Janaki temple. According to the police, Samarat Das organized the attack against himself because he wanted to incriminate Amar Singh and seize his land of 120 bigha.
The detained defendants have been identified as Munna Singh, Vipin, Neeraj Singh, Sonu Singh, Mahant Sitaram, Shivshankar Singh and Vinay Kumar. They were arrested on the basis of surveillance and local contributions from Haridwar Singh Bagh in Tiremanoranma village under the Ithiyathok police station, police said.
Gonda Police Chief Shailesh Dubey said Samrat Das was in hospital after sustaining an injury and would be arrested after being released.
Police also recovered locally made pistols from the possession of Sonu Singh, Mahant Sitaram and Munna Singh. Munna Singh shot priest Samrat Das on October 10, police said. After being beaten, Das had alleged that Amar Singh, along with three other people, had attacked him while he was sleeping inside the temple.
Gonda SP Pandey said that Samrat Das had wanted to frame Amar Singh for seizing 120 bigha of land. Pandey said that during the investigation, it came to light that there was a dispute between Mahant Sitaram Das and Amar Singh over 120 bigha lands. It was also learned that one of those arrested, Vinay Kumar, planned to contest the upcoming panchayat elections against Amar Singh. “The duo made a nefarious plot to frame Amar Singh,” he said.
According to the plan, Munna, Sonu, Neeraj were going to attack Samrat Das in such a way that he survives. On the middle night of October 10 and 11, they attacked Samrat. As the trio escaped, a local guard guarding the temple also spotted them, the officer said.
Later, Samrat had appointed Amar Singh, Mukesh Singh, Bhayharan Singh and Daroga Singh for the attack, on the basis of which an FIR was registered against him. The police also arrested Daroga and Bhayharan on the same day. Now, they would be released.
