Metros will resume from September 7: the Center announces POE | India News


NEW DELHI: Metro services across the country will gradually resume from September 7 and all corridors will be operational on September 12, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri announced Wednesday.
The Center also issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for metro operations amid the Covid-19 pandemic. These are the SOPs announced by the Center:
* The entry and exit doors in the containment zones will remain closed.
* Only asymptomatic people will be able to travel after the thermal examination.
* Subway rails can skip stations to maintain social distancing.
* Minimal luggage and no metal items during the trip.
* To guarantee social distancing, adequate signage will be made in stations and inside trains.
* The use of face masks will be mandatory for all passengers and staff. Metro rail corporations can arrange for the supply of masks upon payment to those arriving without a mask.
* The use of the Aarogya Setu app will be encouraged.
* Disinfectants will be supplied at the entrance to the stations for use by passengers
* Sanitation of all areas that have human interface viz. Equipment, train, work area, elevator, escalator, handrail, AFC door, restrooms, etc. will be performed at regular intervals
* The use of smart cards and cashless / online transactions will be encouraged. Tokens and paper / ticket receipts for use with proper disinfection
* Adequate waiting time at stations to allow smooth boarding / disembarking, ensuring social distancing
