ms dhoni: MS Dhoni is a person who makes people remember what their strengths are, says Deepak Chahar | Cricket news
During the confinement, Chahar was in constant contact with his Chennai Super Kings captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and followed his advice to stay fit. Chahar says he’s grateful to have a legend like Dhoni by his side.
“I have been in contact with Mahi bhai during this period. A few days ago she made a phone call and said “body mei aa gai tere energy level? Baar baar injured kyun ho jata hai (have you regained your energy levels? Why are you injured so often?). Your phone calls really motivated me. It feels great when a legend like him calls out and gives advice. I am happy to have a legend like Mahi bhai by my side, ”Chahar told Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview.
“Mahi bhai gives me the right advice. She has suggested some exercises to keep me in shape. She has asked me to get enough rest. He always says one thing: ‘unfit nahi hona hai tune’ (you can’t be unfit), ”said the 28-year-old fast bowler.
A fit Chahar is now eager to hit the field. He has become an important member of the Chennai Super Kings team led by MS Dhoni and is confident that Dhoni, who will be seen in action after nearly a year and a half, will guide CSK to title victory again.
Dhoni last played in the colors of India during the 2019 ICC World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. India was chasing 240 to win and enter the final. Dhoni scored 50 runs on 72 balls, but failed to carry the Men in Blue to the finish line. India pulled out of the mega event after suffering an 18-run loss to the Kiwis in Manchester.
“I have played a lot of cricket with him (MS Dhoni). I’ve been playing for CSK for four years. CSK is like family and Mahi bhai handles it very well. I know he has not played for India in the last year. But seeing him on the cricket field again will be very exciting. I’m also looking forward to playing him, “an excited Chahar, who has played 3 ODI and 10 T20I for India so far, told TimesofIndia.com.
“I am really looking forward to the IPL as nothing was happening in Indian cricket. I am very excited that the tournament is ready to begin. I am sure Mahi bhai will lead CSK to win the title this time. I was injured in December of last year and since then I have not played cricket. I want to start over and IPL will give me that platform. I am in shape and really wanting to go. Due to the confinement, I have a lot of time to myself. In this period, I rested, recovered from the injury, and introspected. I was lucky to have an academy near my home. I go there for my daily practice and training, “he said.
Chahar has been playing under Dhoni’s leadership at IPL for four years. It was part of the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise (now defunct) in 2016 and 2017 and was purchased by CSK in 2018.
In 34 IPL matches so far, Chahar has claimed 33 wickets.
“IPL has taught me a lot. Handling pressure – that’s the main thing I learned from the tournament. Sometimes you sit in the dugout and watch your teammates get hit by runs or take windows. And, after a few games, you go out and experience the same thing. IPL is fun, plus a great learning platform. When you hit a window or hit a six, the fans cheer for you. You cannot express what that feeling is like. It is out of the world. This time, I will certainly miss that (fans in the stadium), but I know the fans will be cheering while watching the games on TV this time, “Chahar, who has taken 19 international wickets so far, told TimesofIndia.com.
“I always want to play in the yellow jersey and I want my captain to be Mahi bhai. He is an amazing leader. He gives us advice before and after the game. I once asked him, Mahi bhai, kya karu? (What should I do)? He instantly said ‘woh tera kaam hai’ (that’s your job). But he came up to me and advised me. He is a person who will give you confidence. He will remind you of your strengths ”, concluded Chahar.
