‘BSNL employees are traitors’: Anantkumar Hegde shakes the row | India News

NEW DELHI: BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde has sparked a controversy by saying that BSNL employees are “traitors” who weren’t killing to work to develop a well-known company.
The BJP leader said that 88,000 company employees will be laid off as the government is going to privatize BSNL.
Hedge made these comments while speaking at an event on August 10 in the Kumta region of Karnataka.
However, the BJP leader is not new to controversy.
At the beginning of February this year, the former Union minister attacked Mahatma Gandhi calling the fight for freedom directed by him as a “drama”. He also asked how “such people” came to be called ‘Mahatma’ in India.
Hedge also made headlines when his Twitter account was blocked in April and accused the microblogging site of taking an “anti-India” position and acting “with very prejudiced intentions.”
The Uttara Kannada MP had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against “digital colonization” by a corporate entity.
The government had said earlier this year that it was not going to sell or divest state-owned phone companies BSNL or MTNL and instead planned a “revival” of both companies.
With both companies reeling from the financial crisis, employee wages were delayed, prompting strikes by protesting workers.
