CHENNAI: Kanimozhi, a member of DMK Lok Sabha, had an unpleasant experience when an officer from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Chennai airport asked her if she was “Indian” after the MP asked the latter to speak in English.
“Today at the airport, a (female) CISF officer asked me if ‘I am Indian’ when I asked her to speak to me in Tamil or English, as I did not know Hindi. I would like to know from when I am Indian it is equal to knowing Hindi, ”tweeted the Tuticorin deputy.
Kanimozhi soon found the support of the Lok Sabha member of Congress, Manickam Tagore, who was elected from the Virudhunagar parliamentary seat. “Damn! The way the ruling system drives One nation, one language, one culture will wipe out the many for the few. Hope @CISFHQrs takes action on this! ”The congressman tweeted.
Their effort was not wasted, as CISF responded quickly and promised appropriate action.
“Kind regards from @CISFHQrs. We sincerely appreciate your unpleasant experience. Kindly DM trip details, airport name, location, date and time of the incident to take appropriate action on the matter, ”CISF tweeted.
