NEW DELHI: Mahendra Singh Dhoni this year IPL It may be a topic of conversation, but the tournament cannot be a selection test for the enigmatic former captain of India, the former player acknowledges. Ashish nehra.
Dhoni has withdrawn from Cricket test and he has not played for India in the limited overs format since last year’s World Cup, where India finished with semifinalists.
His return and retirement has been a subject of intense speculation. His long-awaited return is expected to be with Chennai Super Kings at the next IPL, to be held in the UAE from September 19.
“For me, Ms dhoniThe game never fell, “Nehra said on the Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected.’
“He knows how to lead the team, he knows how to push the youth forward and all of these things that I don’t need to repeat over and over again, but I don’t think this IPL makes any difference to the stature of MS Dhoni or his aura as a player” added Nehra, 41, who played 17 tests and 120 ODI.
“I don’t think a tournament like the IPL should be the selection criteria for MS Dhoni, it’s probably just a topic of conversation.”
Nehra said Dhoni would remain the first choice of any captain, if available.
“As for MS Dhoni’s international career, I don’t think this IPL has anything to do with it. If you are a selector, you are a captain, you are a coach and MS Dhoni … if he is ready to play, he will be my name number one on the list, “he said.
The former left-arm pacemaker said players will need to behave responsibly during IPL to avoid protocol breaches like England’s. Jofra Archer during the recently concluded England-West Indies series.
Archer had violated biological safety protocols and was sidelined for the second test.
Nehra said such a breach during an eight-team IPL would be a bigger problem to tackle.
“We have seen an incident by Jofra Archer about what happened, so we hope that such incidents do not happen. That was a bilateral series in which the teams remain on the ground.”
“Either you speak of Southampton or Old Trafford, there are hotels on the ground. But in the IPL that is not the case, so all players should support BCCI should support IPL in organizing things better.”
“It will not be easy, it will be an incredible job organizing the tournament (IPL) because you are talking about eight teams. Yes, the good thing is that one will not be required to take flights and everything will be by road, so everything will be close so that everyone can really help the authorities.
