Coronavirus Vaccine Update: We may need a booster shot for the COVID-19 vaccine; this is what it means
Despite the fact that the new coronavirus continues to wreak havoc worldwide, the global race for a coronavirus vaccine has also intensified. As of now, more than 150 vaccine candidates are already in different trial stages, and 4 of them have reached the last stage of human testing, the final stage before obtaining regulatory approvals for the vaccine license. After encouraging preliminary results from the Oxford Coronavirus vaccine, there is renewed hope that a COVID-19 vaccine will be available before fall 2020.
As the world gets closer to the coronavirus vaccine, it is also important to note that we may need more than one dose of the vaccine to fight the new spread. We are talking about the booster dose, which essentially means an additional dose of the vaccine that is administered periodically to increase the body’s immune response against a pathogen.
