At least 11 dead when crane collapses at Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Vizag | Visakhapatnam News


VISAKHAPATNAM: At least 11 people died and three were injured in Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in the Sindia area of ​​Vizag on Saturday afternoon after a crane collapsed while management was conducting a test to determine its capacity.
The deceased have been identified as four regular HSL employees and seven contract employees.
According to preliminary information, the new crane was purchased from Anupam Crane Company in Mumbai as part of the HSL crane upgrade. But Anupam Crane Company did not perform the test during delivery.
On Saturday, HSL, with its electrical wing personnel and local contractors, Green Field Company, lead engineers, and Squad Seven Companies, were conducting full load tests of the crane.

Within minutes of the trailhead, the crane collapsed after being damaged in the middle.
The state tourism minister M Srinivasa Rao He told TOI that about 11 people died in the accident and he has ordered an investigation into the incident. He instructed the city police commissioner and the district collector to verify the facts by visiting the HSL. He called on the district authorities to provide the best medical treatment to injured people.
Visakha West’s local MLA P Gana Babu told TOI that Anupam Company had supplied a crane to HSL at a cost of Rs 50 crore five years ago. But he has not completed the tour. “HSL did not pay the full amount to the company, since it did not carry out the tests. Now, the HSL, with local contractors, started the race at full load and the accident occurred. We suspect one or two bodies under the collapsed crane, ”said MLA Gana Babu.
