Babri demolition case: LK Advani deposits via video link | India News

LUCKNOW: BJP veteran leader LK Advani recorded his statement on Friday in a CBI special court in the Babri Mosque demolition case.
The statement by the 92-year-old former deputy prime minister was videotaped in court by Special Judge SK Yadav in the presence of his lawyer Vimal Kumar Srivastava, KK Mishra and Abhishek Ranjan, who were present at the court.
CBI lawyers Lalit Singh, P Chakravarti and RK Yadav were also present.
On Thursday, the court recorded the statement of BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi in the case.
By calling the prosecution witnesses in the Babri Mosque demolition case “liars,” Joshi had claimed he was innocent and implicated in the case by the then-congressional government at the Center.
The 86-year-old leader pleaded not guilty by making his statement under section 313 of the CrPC.
The Babri Mosque demolition trial is currently at the recording stage of the statements of 32 defendants in the CrPC Section 313 case during which they have an opportunity to refute the prosecution’s evidence against them.
The mosque in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6, 1992 by ‘kar sevaks’ who claimed that an ancient Ram temple was on the same site.
Advani and Joshi were among the leaders of the Ram temple movement at the time.
The court is holding a daily hearing in the case to complete its trial before August 31, as indicated by the Supreme Court.
