Pakistan’s Focus on Kulbhushan Jadhav Sham: India | India News

NEW DELHI: India accused Pakistan on Thursday of blocking all legal remedies for Indian death row inmate Kulbhushan Jadhav.
MEA spokesman Anurag Srivastava also said Pakistan took a “ridiculous approach” to handling the case, adding that India is exploring the options available on the matter.
“In the absence of unhindered and unhindered consular access, as well as relevant documents, as a last resort, India attempted to file a petition on July 18,” he said during an online news conference.
“However, our Pakistani lawyer reported that a petition for review could not be filed in the absence of powers and supporting documents related to the Jadhav case,” he added.
Pakistan had said earlier this month that July 20 is the latest filing date for a petition for Jadhav’s review of the death sentence handed down by a Pakistani military court.
The Pakistani military court sentenced the retired 50-year-old Indian Navy officer to death on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017. India approached the International Court of Justice against Pakistan for denying consular access to Jadhav and challenging the death sentence. .
The Hague-based ICJ ruled in July 2019 that Pakistan must undertake an “effective review and reconsideration” of Jadhav’s conviction and sentence and also grant consular access to India without further delay.
