Coronavirus Vaccine: The COVID-19 Oxford-Astrazeneca Vaccine Is Gaining Praise, But Here’s Why We Should Refrain From Building False Hopes
AstraZeneca has signed pacts with several vaccine producers worldwide to increase production facilities to meet demand. In a recent briefing, the WHO chief noted progress made by several companies, but said it would still be unrealistic to wait for a vaccine before 2021.
“We are making good progress … Realistically, it will be the first part of next year before we start to see people get vaccinated.”
However, much more study is needed before considering this fact: how affordable the vaccine will be, it will reach everyone, and whether everyone will have fair access to it. These concerns must also be addressed.
