Students can now follow 2-grade courses simultaneously

NEW DELHI: A math student at Delhi University can now choose to simultaneously pursue any other degree, say English literature from Ignou or any other institution.

In a move to improve their career prospects, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a proposal to allow students to pursue two degree programs at the same time. One of the titles must be in regular mode and the other in open and distance learning or online. A student can earn two degrees in different streams as well as from different institutions. You can also choose the same institution, as long as it offers multiple learning modes.

Detailed guidelines will be notified soon.

A committee under UGC Vice President Bhushan Patwardhan worked on the proposal based on public comment.

According to the committee, since there is a minimum attendance criterion attached to regular grade programs, the second grade must be distance or online.

The committee believes that this will offer better career opportunities to students.

UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said: “The commission has approved the proposal and the guidelines will be notified. Based on this decision, a student will be able to earn two degrees simultaneously, but for both degrees the delivery mode will be different A student seeking a regular degree can earn a second degree only through ODL or online mode. ”
