PM Modi announces 21-day national blockade to combat coronavirus | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a full nationwide closure on Tuesday for 21 days starting at midnight Tuesday, stating that this is necessary for a decisive battle against the coronavirus outbreak.

In his second speech to the nation on the pandemic that is unfolding in much of the world, Prime Minister Modi said that the decision will have an economic cost but that saving people’s lives is of utmost importance to his government.

“If we don’t handle these 21 days well, then our country, your family will go back 21 years,” he said.

There will be a complete obstacle for people to leave their homes, he said, and even crossed his hands to emphasize his request to citizens to adhere to the call.

Experts and the experience of countries fighting the deadly virus make it clear that social distancing is the only way to combat the disease, he said.
