Hydroxychloroquine for healthcare workers, people caring for Covid-19 patients in homes: ICMR | India News

NEW DELHI: ICMR CEO Balrama Bhargava on Monday recommended the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat healthcare workers who are dealing with suspected or confirmed coronavirus cases and also asymptomatic household contacts of laboratory-confirmed cases.

The treatment protocol recommended by the National Task Force has been approved by the Comptroller General of Drugs of India (DGCI) for restricted use in emergency situations.

Commenting on the multi-state blockade to contain coronavirus infection, a health ministry official said states had been ordered to order police superintendents and district magistrates to strictly enforce the blockade. .

“The partial blockade defeats the purpose of breaking the chain of transmission of the new coronavirus,” the official said.

In the private laboratories that were allowed to test for COVID-19, Bhargava said that 12 chains of private laboratories have been registered and started operating after testing was allowed.

These 12 labs have 15,000 collection centers, he said.

So far, the country has reported 415 cases, health ministry officials said, adding that the death toll is seven.
