Sonia Gandhi urges people not to panic, launches aid package | India News

NEW DELHI: President of Congress Sonia Gandhi urged people on Saturday not to panic at the coronavirus outbreak and said the country will not give in to this painful crisis.
She suggested a series of measures to help those affected by the coronavirus and said that the government should announce a comprehensive and sectoral aid package to support those affected by its economic consequences.
In a statement, Sonia Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government to increase the number of testing facilities across the country and to make details of hospitals and medical facilities public through a dedicated portal.
It also proposed a special budget allocation to improve facilities to combat the virus.
“Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures. The government must immediately announce a comprehensive, sectoral aid package, which includes the necessary tax exemptions, interest subsidies and deferral of responsibilities. For the salaried class, the government and the RBI must consider a postponement of EMI, “said the head of Congress.
