Coronavirus: 80% of people will experience a cold-like fever, they will recover on their own, says DG ICMR | India News


NEW DELHI: About 80 percent of people infected with coronavirus will experience a cold-like fever and recover on their own, said director-general of the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), Balram Bhargava.

“Understanding the condition is essential. 80 percent of people will experience a cold-like fever and recover. 20 percent may experience a cough, cold, fever, and some of them may need to be admitted to the hospital,” he said. . Bhargava here while addressing a joint presser foot.

“The 5 percent who enter the hospital receive supportive treatment and, in some cases, new medications are administered,” Bhargava said.

The ICMR Director General further stated that they have performed 15,000-17,000 tests so far.

“We have performed between 15,000 and 17,000 tests so far. We have the capacity to perform 10,000 tests per day. This means that we can perform between 50,000 and 70,000 per week,” he said.

Stressing that to break the chain of transmission the easiest method is to isolate people who come from abroad, the Director General of ICMR said: “The virus is not present in the air. It can be transmitted through the drops released.”

Addressing the joint communicator, Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of the Ministry of Health, said that the Center has asked state governments to issue instructions to the 75 districts that have positive cases to stop all services except emergency services.

He also expressed his happiness for all sectors of society that contributed to the success of ‘Janata Curfew’, whose call was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

“In India, 341 confirmed cases have been reported so far. It can vary as I mention,” he said.
