NEW DELHI: A Delhi court dismissed on Thursday a statement by the AAP suspended councilor, Tahir Hussain, who seeks to surrender to him in connection with the alleged murder of the Intelligence Office (IB) official, Ankit Sharma, after which the police arrested him.
The additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Vishal Pahuja, rejected Hussain’s plea saying that the relief requested by him was outside his jurisdiction.
When the court dismissed Hussain’s statement, a Delhi police team, which had already arrived, arrested him and arrested him.
Hussain submitted the delivery request to the court saying he was willing to join the investigation and wanted to surrender in the case.
Attorney Mukesh Kalia, who appeared for Hussain, argued in court that Hussain faced life threats and was forced to file a surrender statement before the Rouse Avenue court instead of the Karkardooma court.
The lawyer said Hussain was falsely involved in the case and sought protection for his life and property.
Hussain has been registered in the case of the murder of the IB staff member in northeast Delhi in the midst of violence over the new citizenship law last week.
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Delhi had suspended him for his alleged involvement in the violence that has left at least 42 dead and around 200 injured.
