Mamata Banerjee: All Bangladeshis living in Bengal are Indian citizens | India News

KALIAGANJ (West Bengal): The chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, said on Tuesday that everyone who came from Bangladesh and has cast votes in the elections were Indian citizens and did not need to apply for citizenship again.

Banerjee also criticized the Modi government for its handling of communal riots in Delhi, which have so far claimed 42 lives, and said it will not allow West Bengal to become another Delhi.

“Those who came from Bangladesh are citizens of India … they have citizenship. It is not necessary to reapply for citizenship. You have cast your vote in the elections, choosing PM and CM … now they say they are not citizens … don’t believe them, “he said at a public meeting here.

He also said he will not allow “not one person” to be expelled from Bengal. The Prime Minister of West Bengal said that no refugee living in the state will be deprived of citizenship.

Hitting the central government for the violence in Delhi, the TMC chief said: “Don’t forget that this is Bengal. What happened in Delhi will never be allowed to happen here. We don’t want Bengal to become another Delhi or another Uttar Pradesh.” .

The BJP has often accused Banerjee of “Muslim appeasement” and of pleasing the interests of the minority community by the “voting bank policy.”
