The imprisoned SP leader, Azam Khan, says he was treated “like a terrorist” | India News

SITAPORE: The jailed parliamentarian of the Samajwadi party, Azam Khan, alleged Saturday that he was treated very inhumanly, “like a terrorist.”
“Bahut amanviya bartav hua hai merely saath,” said Khan, who was taken from Sitapur prison to the Rampur court on Saturday morning in connection with a hearing, told reporters from a police van.
“Like a terrorist,” he shouted as they took him away.
The wife of Khan’s legislator, Tanzeen Fatima and his son and the disqualified MLA Abdullah Azam were also taken to Rampur amid strict security measures for a hearing in another case.
The three were transferred to Sitapur jail from Rampur on Thursday. A court sent them into judicial custody until March 2 in a fake birth certificate case after they surrendered to him on Wednesday.
The case relates to two birth certificates of Abdullah Azam, who allegedly gave an incorrect birth date when presenting his nomination documents for the assembly elections in 2017.
Abdullah’s election was overturned by the Allahabad High Court last December, and on Thursday, the UP Legislative Assembly also disqualified him as a member and declared his Suar position in Rampur vacant.
In recent years, Azam Khan has also faced charges of usurpation of land around the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur, where he is chancellor.
