NEW DELHI: For the second time in less than 24 hours, National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval landed in areas affected by the riots in northeastern Delhi to personally review the situation and mitigate the security concerns of the local population.

On Wednesday afternoon, he spent more than half an hour in Jaffrabad, one of the most affected areas, and interacted with the local police.

The situation in northeast Delhi “is under control,” Doval said after holding a meeting with senior Delhi police officials.

At least 22 people died and more than 200 were injured in community violence that erupted in northeast Delhi three days ago. Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh, Shiv Vihar are among the areas mainly affected by the riots.

Doval, who was assigned the task of controlling the violence, held a meeting with the high command of the Delhi Police in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) in Seelampur.

The additional police commissioner (crime) Mandeep Singh Randhawa, the newly appointed special CP S Shrivastava, the special CP (Law and order) Satisha Golcha and DCP of northeastern Delhi, Ved Prakash Arya, were among those present at the meeting that lasted just over 30 minutes.

This was Doval’s second visit to the office. He had visited the office and met with senior officials Tuesday night.

After the meeting, Doval went to Jaffrabad and Maujpur to take stock of the situation. He interacted with the locals and assured them that peace will be guaranteed in the area.

“The situation is under control and people are satisfied. We trust law enforcement agencies,” he told reporters.

Doval said the police are doing their job and that they have been sent to the affected areas by order of Interior Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“People have a sense of unity between them, there is no enmity. Some criminals do things like this (they spread violence), people are trying to isolate them. The police are here and they are doing their job. We are here on the orders of HM and PM. Inshallah yahan par bilkul love hoga, “he said.

Doval urged the locals to maintain harmony and work to solve the problems of others.

“My message is that everyone who loves their country also loves their society and their neighbors. Everyone should live with love and harmony with others. People should try to solve the problems of others and not increase them,” he said.
