PM Modi welcomes President Trump to India with a hug | India News


AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed US President Donald Trump on Monday when he arrived at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on his first official visit to India in an attempt to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Upon disembarking the plane, Prime Minister Modi gave him a warm welcome with the famous “bear hug”.

Trump is accompanied by the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, her daughter Ivanka and her son-in-law Jared Kushner on the visit.

Gujarat Prime Minister Vijay Rupani was also present at the airport along with other officials to welcome visiting dignitaries. While walking on the red carpet, the president of the United States received an honor guard of three services.

“Hum Bharat aane ke liye tatpar hain. Hum raste hain me, kuchh hello ghanton me hum sab milenge (We’re excited to come to India. We’re on our way, we’ll meet sometime from now on,”) Trump tweeted on Hindi before leaving for a visit to the United States.

“Atithi Devo Bhava (Guest is God),” Prime Minister Modi had tweeted re-tweeting Trump’s Hindi tweet.

Earlier, the prime minister had said in a tweet: “India awaits your arrival @POTUS @realDonaldTrump! Your visit will definitely strengthen the friendship between our nations even more. See you very soon in Ahmedabad.”

The legendary Air Force One, stamped with the words “United States of America,” the American flag and the Seal of the President of the United States, landed at Ahmedabad airport shortly before 12 p.m.

Trump is scheduled to participate in an itinerant show, in addition to addressing the ‘Namaste Trump’ event along with Modi at the Motera stadium, the world’s largest cricket field with a capacity of 1.10 lakh people.

Great preparations have been made for the high-profile visit with thousands of people who are expected to line the streets of Ahmedabad to greet the two leaders during their tour.
